This year’s New Works Festival features 6 performances and 2 short films written and directed by the students of 4A06 A/B – Theatre and Society.

Performances:
Sincerely, Jordan – Robb Gendron
Summary:
Tackles suicide awareness and prevention through the eyes of Jordan, a person who dies by suicide one morning only to wake up again the same day finding everything reset
Advisement:
This work deals with sensitive subject matter related to and including mentions and depictions of suicide. Please be advised.

No Man’s Land – Madi Law
Summary:
Set in 1915, four best friends from a small farming town in Ontario, go off to France to fight in the First World War. They are excited for a new adventure but they quickly realize that war is not all it’s cracked up to be.

Root Da Haani – Harpreet Bassan
Summary:
1970 Punjabi society’s expectations of the four individual’s responsibilities to their family takes a toll on their love for one another causing neglect on other’s emotions and choices.

Frozen Food – Gabby Cifa
Summary:
Unprepared show to lowly bathroom, there’s little left but too much space and too much self. The writer is angry about being left alone and a stranger’s sudden presence is less than welcome.

Raucous Stalaglights – Malcolm Poitras
Summary:
A group of egocentric thespians stuck in a cave, growing more restless by the minute. They’re loud, they’re grieving, they’re plagued with existentialism, and what’s more, they have a play to perform.

Two Weeks Apart – Kindrey Krol
Summary:
With a catastrophic natural disaster imminent, the world has two weeks left to live. Isolated,?Sam unlearns the life she performed for others,?says goodbye to loved ones, and treasures the good memories that she has.

Mind of Mirrors – Shaden Ahmed
Summary:
In this?short film?set in one long hallway, a girl struggling with Body Dysmorphic Disorder spirals about how she is perceived?as she locks eyes with strangers walking by her.

Summary:
“Nasslain” is a?short film?about a girl named Zara, a first generation immigrant from a South Asian household living in Canada, reflecting on her experience growing up in two different worlds.

About The New Works Festival:
The New Works Festival features the work of students from the graduating class of the Theatre and Film Studies program. The creative and production teams work within three classes in the program: 4A06 Theatre and Society: Performance Project taught by Kelly Wolf, and 30P6 Organizing Performance Environments taught by Patrick Brennan.
The Theatre and Film Studies program would like to thank all of the additional volunteers that have dedicated so much of their free time to the festival.
