Improving Access to Mental Health Services Among Black Youth in Hamilton
Free Event for Alumni
Overview

Dear Community Members,
My name is Dr. Ingrid Waldron, Professor and HOPE Chair in Peace and Health in the Global Peace and Social Justice Program at McMaster University. Since earlier this year, I have been collaborating with the organization Empowerment Squared and my research team to conduct a study entitled Improving Access to Mental Health Services Among Black Youth in Hamilton, Ontario. This study, which is being funded by Medavie Health Foundation, Balsam Foundation, Echo Foundation and a Strategic Excellence and Equity in Recruitment and Retention (STEER/R) grant from McMaster University, is examining Black youth’s experiences with mental illness and help-seeking in Hamilton, with a goal to use the study findings and recommendations to inform mental health policy, programs, and services.
I am inviting you to join us at a community event on Friday, October 27 from 3 pm-5 pm, when we will share preliminary findings from the study and take questions from you about your vision for how the study can address gaps in mental health policy programs and services for Black youth in Hamilton. It will also be an opportunity to engage in a broader discussion on addressing mental health issues in the Black community in Hamilton.
The event will take place at Empowerment Squared: 26 Arrowsmith Road, Hamilton (East).
A meal will be provided. Please see the poster for more information.
