Title: How to Love Authentically, According to Simone de Beauvoir

Abstract: For Simone de Beauvoir, romantic love is best when it is authentic, that is, based on the intersubjectivity of friendship, but there are mystifications that lead us astray.  This talk explores some of these mystifications—such as being beholden to our passions and misplaced expectations of what love should be—and argues that freeing ourselves from such snares is essential so that we’re free to love in authentically meaningful ways.
