The Department of Classics presents a guest lecture by Dr. Mark Thatcher, Department of Classical Studies, Boston College:
Title: “Being Syracusan in the Hellenistic World”
How did civic and cultural identity develop in a colonial Greek context? How did citizens of a new Greek community develop a common identity? This talk will explore the multiple facets of identity in Western Greece in the Hellenistic Period. Dr. Thatcher is the author of the book, “The Politics of Identity in Greek Sicily and Southern Italy” with Cambridge University Press.
