Claudia Emerson: The Role of Ethical, Social and Cultural Thinking in Supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (Albert Lager Lecture)
By McMaster Alumni
Free Lecture
Overview
Achieving the ambitious plan for peace, prosperity, and environmental sustainability set by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will require commitment by all sectors of society to embrace a transformation in how we think and live. It also requires collective action driven by strong coalitions and partnerships.
While it may be simple to unite around shared goals to address inequalities, injustice, conflict and instability, addressing these global challenges in ways that are ethically, socially, and culturally appropriate is a deeply complex endeavour.
Dr. Claudia Emerson ’02, ’08 will reflect on the role of “Ethical, Social, and Cultural (ESC) Thinking” in supporting the Sustainable Development Goals, with particular reference to SDG#16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.
